JOB TITLE: Health Resource Specialist              Status: Non-exempt

GRADE/HOURLY:  17 / $12.43
 
 
Position Summary:
The Health Resource Specialist supports the Health/Mental Health Content Team Leader in accomplishing the program mission of Children’s Services, serving as a content expert and resource provider for the Health/Mental Health Content Team Leader and Children’s Services.
 
Responsibilities
 
  • Support all Children’s Services’ staff to achieve program results.
  • Assist in creating Service Plans in collaboration with the Health/Mental Health Content Team Leader.
  • Negotiate, or assist in the negotiation of, agreements and contracts for health and dental service providers in the service area to provide health and dental screenings, exams, and treatment.
  • Gather input from various sources and integrate information into the program goals and objectives.
  • Provide support and training to Area Team Leaders, FACES, DOTS, and Classroom Staff specific to Health Content.
  • Serve as an advocate for children and families that are served by the program.
  • Participate in meetings and committees.
  • Participate in selection of accepting children for the program.
  • Assist with coordination health screening to meet the 45 day mandate.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of the Health Services Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Provide input about agency budget and expenses within the content area.
  • Read health history on all children in the program and generate an individualized Health Care Plan on children that have current health issues such as asthma, allergies, seizures, diabetes, and other major health related issues.
  • Read health history on all children in the program and provide Health/Mental Health Content team leader or Mental Health Resource Specialist with any information regarding Mental Health services or medications.
  • Communicate with parents regarding their child’s health issues.
  • Communicate with Family Service Managers pertaining to health issues in the classroom such as pink eye and flu, and provide informative materials to educate parents and staff.
  • Monitor and file all health related documentation submitted to Central Office.
  • Provide First Aid and CPR training and maintain record of expirations.
  • Attend training, conferences, and continuing education classes to maintain professional licensure, as required by agency.
  • Oversees medical/dental billing from provider, verifies payment need, submits for payment, and provides Health/Mental Health Content Team Leader with monthly report of bills paid.
  • Provide health input to newsletter.
 
Additional Responsibilities:
 
  • Attends community activities and meetings appropriate for the Program with direction from supervisor. 
  • Stays current with Children’s Services’ programs and regulations.
  • Support and understand the vision, mission and values of the Partnership.
  • Other duties as may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.
 
Work Relationships and Scope:
Serves as a member of the Health/Mental Content team and reports directly to the Health/Mental Health Content Team Leader.  Frequent and regular interaction occurs with all positions and areas of Children’s Services as well as families and children. Collaborative efforts and coordination of services with outside agencies and providers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
 
  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
  • Medical or health experience required (Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse preferred).
  • Experience working with children with specialized needs.
  • Experience working with programs for young children and their families.
  • Experience establishing a good working relationship with other agencies and the general public.
  • Ability to relate, work and communicate with children and adults from varying socio-economic and ethnic structure of the community.
  • Must be able to travel independently.
  • General understanding of Performance Standards, Children’s Services’ policies, and the care of young children.
  • Should gain additional skills and knowledge through training.
  • Proficient user of technology to deliver results.
 
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in classrooms and a office setting with minimal safety issues as well as frequent travel to outside meetings and Partnership sites throughout northern Alabama.  This position requires sitting, standing, bending, and minimal lifting.  This position requires a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
