JOB TITLE:  Teacher Assistant-Temporary/ Without Benefits                                STATUS:  Non-Exempt
 
REPORTS TO:  Area Team Leader                              DATE:   July 2014
 
GRADE LEVEL/SALARY:     13 – TA with a CDA or a CDC; $9.03 minimum
                                      14 – TA with an AA; $9.81 minimum
 
                                      16 – TA with a BS or BA; $11.59 minimum
 
 
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
The Teacher Assistant is responsible for working in a team effort with the Teacher and other program staff to provide children with a safe and healthy learning environment, advancing their physical and intellectual growth, supporting social and emotional development, providing positive guidance and discipline, establishing positive relationships with families and encouraging their involvement in the education of their children, ensuring a well-run purposeful program responsive to participant’s needs and maintaining a commitment to professionalism.  It is the responsibility of the TA to work under the direct guidance, direction, and monitoring of the Area Team Leader in cooperation with the Content Team Leaders and other program staff in developing lesson plans, classroom management, and procurement of needed teaching materials and supplies.
 
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Must stay current with Microsoft software and other technology used to support Partnership initiatives and communication skills. Have good verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrate ability to assume primary responsibility for planning and implementing the daily program for a group of young children. Has ability to work well with parents of young children.  Has the ability to provide guidance, encouragement, on-going monitoring to the classroom. Ability to provide leadership and problem solve with other staff. Have the ability to work with children and families from diverse social, economic, and cultural backgrounds.  Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred. 
 
Credentials/Experience:
Must be 19 years of age and have a High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of a CDA or CDC. Experience working in a pre-school environment preferred. Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development from an accredited college or university preferred. Be willing to actively pursue courses to obtain an AA degree in Early Childhood Education or Childhood development. 
 
Other Characteristics:
Meet all current childcare employee regulations, Performance Standards and agency regulations. Hold or be willing to obtain a current age appropriate CPR/First Aid Certification. Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds as needed in daily activities, emergency situations, and providing care for children with special needs. Be able to actively participate in a variety of activities with children and oversee children outdoors in various weather conditions as required by program standards. Work assigned hours. Punctual. Utilize all safety equipment and procedures in daily operation of the classroom including appropriate attire such as non-slip shoes, smocks, and gloves.

Work Relationships and Scope:
Reports directly to the Area Team Leader (ATL).  Works closely with Teacher, Family Service Manager, children and families.

Communicates effectively (written and verbally); responsive to the requests and information needs of the Partnership; problem solver; creative thinker; quality of the example set for other employees, team player, commitment and loyalty to the Partnership; maintenance of confidential information.
 
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a classroom setting.  Minimum travel to make home visits is required.  This position requires sitting, standing, bending, and minimal lifting.  This position requires a valid driver’s license, proof of vehicle insurance and safe driving record.
