JOB TITLE:    Family and Community Engagement Specialist 
 
REPORTS TO:  Family and Community Content Team Leader
 
STATUS:  Non-Exempt                                             DAYS:  185 per year
 
GRADE LEVEL / HOURY RATE:  17 / $12.43               DATE:  September 2013
 
 
 
Position Summary:
The Family and Community Specialist will be responsible for building relationships with families as well as strengthening and building new partnerships with community resources. Represent the Partnership in assigned geographic area to deliver services outlined according this job description and other task as given according to Office of Head Start Performance Standards and program Policy and Procedures.  
 
Responsibilities:
 
  • Provide families the opportunity to participate in the Family Partnership Agreement goal setting process.
  • Coordinate and implement services that will support Family and Community Engagement and School Readiness outcomes and framework for Head Start and Early Head Start.
  • Model Leadership Practices in daily environment with children, families, community providers, and peers.
  • Ensure measureable and realistic documentation supports family interaction and is entered into FACSPro and is available for review.
  • Ensure Policy Council family (parent) representation is met for each scheduled meeting.
  • Work Collaboratively with Data Outcomes Team Specialist to accomplish child and family outcomes.
  • Recruit children and families for Early Childcare services.
  • Coordinate opportunities to engage literacy activities for the families.
  • Participate in strengthening School Readiness goals for children.
  • Assist in recruiting substitutes to meet staff-child ratio.
  • Assistance for meeting classroom ratio may be offered at Supervisor approval.
  • Establish and maintain a Family Partnership Agreement tracking system to ensure each family has had the opportunity to establish a goal.
  • Maintain a tracking system to capture PIR documentation.
  • EHS –work with pregnant women to ensure services are met according to Policy and Procedures and Office of Head Start performance standards.
  • Participate in School Readiness Transition Committee.
  • Engage in and/or Coordinate community outreach projects.
  • Be engaged in IEP/IFSP discussions and/or meetings as necessary to assist families in being advocates for their child services.
 
Additional Responsibilities:
 
  • Provide prompt, efficient and responsive service in a demanding work environment
  • Attends community activities and meetings appropriate for the Program. 
  • Stays current with the policies and regulations.
  • Supports and understands the mission of the Partnership.
  • Participate in Self-Assessment as needed.
  • Other task as they relate to this position.
 
Work Relationships and Scope:
Reports directly to the Family and Community Content Team Leader.  Daily or regular interactions with others working directly with families, children, staff and local community resource providers.
 
Measure of Performance: 
High-quality performance, accuracy, timely with deadlines, plans with a purpose, reliable, and thorough; regularly generates, reads, and follows-up on data, child and family reports. Demonstrates commitment and professionalism at all times; maintains confidential information.
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
BS Degree in Social Work or related field preferred and/or Family Development Credential.  Ability to problem solve and work in a team environment. Cultural competent to children and families. Ability to effectively communicate orally and written with children and families. Some computer experience. Ability to implement Head Start Performance Standards, Daycare Licensing Minimum Standards according to job description. Ability to work independently to produce measureable family outcomes.
 
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an office setting with minimal safety issues.  The ability to frequently travel to assigned designated centers in the Partnership service areas, as well as to internal and/or external meetings, trainings, and community involvement.  This position requires sitting, standing, bending, and minimal lifting.  This position requires a valid driver’s license and safe driving record. Serves as a model for maintaining healthy habits and life-style.
